En manque
Synopsis
A non-linear meditation on love’s complexities and contradictions, En Manque (Crave) was the last finished play before playwright Sarah Kane’s suicide in 1999. A chamber piece for four voices, the piece resists a specific location and timeline. Its characters, instead, recall memories, express longings, and attempt to navigate the barriers of age, status, and personal expectations. At times evoking the turbulence of families, at other times, the pain of strangers in isolation, Crave‘s impetus comes from the increasing knowledge that intimacy is impossible even where it is yearned for the most.
