Canada and Korea in cultural dialogue

In June 2024, Artistic Director Stacey Christodoulou was invited by Hye-Ja (Heather) Ju and Jakyung Seo, Co-Artistic Directors of the Global Women’s Performing Arts Festival (GWPAF) in Busan, South Korea for a two-week residency to showcase The Other Theatre’s artistic practice and engage with the Korean artistic community.

Stacey conducted workshops focusing on corporeal theatre as a tool for artistic creation and participated in an online symposium with invited guests from Thailand, South Korea, and the United States.

This residency traces its roots back to the pandemic when The Other Theatre participated in GWPAF with two digital films:  Danser jusqu’à saigner le ciel in 2021 and Les Troyennes in 2023, laying the groundwork for a deeper engagement with the Korean artistic community, including its innovative film and visual art scenes.

Continuing our cultural exchange, Stacey Christodoulou will return in 2025 to direct the Korean premiere of Recovery by Canadian playwright Greg MacArthur. Stay tuned for updates!

Additionally, The Other Theatre is pleased to invite Hye-Ja Ju, Jakyung Seo, and producer Ji-Sook Lee to Montreal for a two-week residency in May 2026, allowing them to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Montreal.
