As newcomers to the city—our new home—we walk through the streets, taking in the surrounding architecture. We wonder about these eclectic buildings. Who lives in them? What do they look like inside? Do their interiors resemble those we left behind? Curiosity takes hold, and suddenly, our imagination runs wild. From this simple starting point, this creation-laboratory invited young people to imagine fictional interior spaces inspired by the existing buildings in their neighborhood.
This project took shape during the pandemic, a time when we were confined to our homes and immersed in digital tools. In response, we prioritized the body as the primary tool for creation and expression. Through gesture, movement, and action, the goal was to connect the physicality of our bodies to the city’s architecture. Workshops were held with students at Édouard-Montpetit High School, St-Laurent High School, and Anjou High School.
Each school worked on a specific building in its own neighborhood, imagining its interior space through movement and model-making. The project culminated in exhibitions where the maquettes and accompanying videos, showcasing the choreographies and artistic process, were presented at the Maison de la Culture in each respective neighborhood.
